Visit to community De Uelenspieghel (NL)

In spring 2024, looking for inspiration, we visited community De Uelenspieghel in the Netherlands, province of Drenthe.

Things we noticed:

• De Uelenspieghel is a true communal living space, where families live together and cocreate a beautiful space and life. 

• The heart of the place is an old dutch farm building, surrounded by gardens, orchard and tiny house living spaces. 

• The place has a very open, inclusive vibe. We felt very welcome, although the community was busy preparing for an event the next day. 

• The place is owned by the original inhabitants of the farm, who have opened their land for others. 

• The community lives in close harmony with nature. The land is rich in beautiful trees. Most of their food is grown by themselves.

• Art, creation, crafts and music are ingrained in the community and a very important part of life on De Uelenspieghel.

• There was an interesting building on the land, built completely from biobased and circular materials by Mas Con Menos.
